If you are starting a new blog, or already have one, there are some very important plugins that I feel are crucial to helping it being successful.
WordPress is my personal choice, simple, offers a variety of themes and is very easy to use.
The Number One plugin is the All In One SEO Pack, which gives every post that you write an optimized Title for search engines, a brief summary, and targeted keywords for search engines to spider immediately upon publishing, helping you attain higher ranking. Simple, out of the box installation.
Number Two is the cbnet Ping Optimizer, which saves your blog from getting tagged as a ping spammer. Anytime you update your post, WordPress is automatically set up to ping the search engines. Do it too much, they can mark you as a spammer. Install this plug in and don't worry about it.
Number Three is the CSS Compress, designed to compress your files within your site so that it loads much faster, something search engines look at when spidering your website. Even Alexia shows the Page Load speed on their toolbar, so it's a very important factor.
Number Four is the Google Analytics Plugin, which allows you to easily view the amount of traffic, where it is coming from, most popular content, keywords and a host of other vital information. Simple to install and all you need is to insert the code that Google will provide you and you're good to go.
Finally, Number Five is the Dagon Design Sitemap Generator Plus which generates a fully customizable sitemap on the main page and helps the search engines spider all of your content, giving you higher ranking, as well as providing your visitors an easily navigable map to find all of your content.
In conclusion, these five plugins are all about optimizing your blog to be fast, efficient, informative and search engine friendly.
